Overview/Supplementary
This test detects poxviruses, including variola virus, orthopoxvirus, non-variola virus and varicella-zoster from clinical specimens. Results are presumptive only.
Specimen may be sent to CDC for further characterization.
If testing is for a specimen associated with concern for mpox (2022-23 mpox outbreak), please order Non-Variola Orthopoxvirus PCR - Specimen (NVOPCRSPEC) instead.

Specimen Requirements
Specimens: Dry swab of lesion, lesion crusts, or scabs
Cotton swabs or swabs received in transport media will not be accepted.

Transport/Stability
Ship at refrigeration (2°C to 8°C) temperature. Specimens must received be within 7 days of collection.
