Overview/Supplementary

This test isolates and identifies respiratory viruses by culture from specimens that were negative by PCR testing for measles, mumps, and/or rubella.

Turn Around Time

Up to 6 weeks

Specimen Requirements

Specimens in Liquid Stuarts, M4, M5, Sterile PBS, Sterile saline, UTM, or VTM: Throat swab (preferred up to 9 days post onset), Buccal swab, Nasal swab, Nasal wash, Nasopharyngeal swab, or Nasopharyngeal wash

Preferred volume: 3 mL
Minimum volume: 140 µL

Special Considerations

None

Transport/Stability

Store and ship at refrigeration (2°C to 8°C) temperature within 7 days of collection. Alternatively, ship frozen (≤0°C).
