This test confirms the identification of organisms causing neonatal sepsis and is for the surveillance of neonatal sepsis. Submit all bacteria, excluding coagulase-negative Staphylococcus, isolated from a sterile site in infants less than 7 days of age.
If submitting Haemophilus influenzae, Neisseria meningitidis, MRSA, MSSA, Group A Streptococcus, Group B Streptococcus, or Streptococcus pneumoniae, see organism specific tests.
