This test identifies Neisseria meningitidis in isolates. If N. meningitidis is detected, serotyping is performed for serotypes A, B, C, W135, X, and Y.

Specimen Requirements
Isolates: Actively growing culture on media that support the growth of the bacterial isolate submitted. (e.g., Blood agar, Chocolate agar).
Use slant with screw cap or ensure plates are sealed.
Special Considerations
This organism is reportable and submission of clinical materials is required by the MN Reportable Disease Rule 4605.7000 - 4605.7900 (https://www.health.state.mn.us/diseases/reportable/rule/index.html).
Transport/Stability
Store and ship at ambient (8°C to 25°C) or refrigerated (2°C to 8°C) temperature.
