Overview/Supplementary

This test identifies arboviruses from cerebrospinal fluid/CSF. The arbovirus panel may change throughout the testing season which is typically spring through fall.

The panel may include: West Nile, Powassan, Jamestown Canyon, viruses. Serological positive results may be confirmed by additional methods. Inconclusive results may indicate cross-reactivity; a convalescent specimen should be sent for testing if arbovirus infection is suspected.

Specimen Requirements

Specimens: Cerebrospinal fluid/CSF 

Preferred volume: 2 mL
Minimum volume: 625 µL

Please also order and submit a serum specimen, which is the preferred specimen source.

Must provide symptom onset date

Please also provide storage conditions and any previous testing on the submission form

Transport/Stability

Store and ship at refrigeration (2°C to 8°C) temperature within 48 hours of collection. Alternatively, store and ship frozen (≤0°C) within 30 days of collection.
